Attraction. The Carl Sandburg Home
and National Historic Site is
located on 264 beautiful acres in
Flat Rock NC, just a short drive
away from our Campgrounds in Western
NC. As one of the popular Asheville
Attractions, the Carl Sandburg Home
is always a fun place to tour,
offering plenty of history, tons of
culture and even a pseudo petting
zoo as Connemara, the estate as it
was called, is home to a herd of
champion Chikaming dairy goats.

The Carl Sandburg Home offers
something for everyone, and visitors
can tour the inside of Sandburg's
home seeing over 65,00 artifacts on
display including intimate
documents, manuscripts and items
that were dear to the Sandburg
family. Thirty minute tours of the
home are given throughout the day.
In addition to touring the Carl
Sandburg Home, visitors can enjoy
the more than 5 miles of hiking and
natural trails that surround the
estate. Sit and ponder as Sandburg
did on the infamous rock that he is
so renowned for sitting atop in his
beloved rocking chair, or explore
the barn area and the Chikaming Goat
Dairy; at its peak Mrs. Sandburg
raised 200 goats on the farm!
 In addition to the regular tours and
trails, the Carl Sandburg Home has
numerous events that take place
throughout the year including the
Poetry Celebration, Folk Music
Festival, Rootabaga Stories, Lincoln
Festival and the Home for the
